Mental Health Champion
Location: Houston
Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension based on funding availability.
Compensation: $60,000–$65,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Position Overview:
The Rupani Foundation USA is dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to achieve their full potential by advancing holistic human development through its early childhood development (ECD), economic empowerment, and mental health programs.
Recognizing the vital link between maternal antenatal and postpartum mental health and the developmental outcomes of their children, we are seeking to designate a Mental Health Champion who will act as an advocate, resource, and support for mental health initiatives within the organization.
This role is essential in fostering a positive workplace culture, reducing stigma around mental health, and ensuring that employees have access to appropriate resources and support.
Specific Duties
- Develop an Antenatal and Postpartum Mental Health Strategy
- Assess the antenatal and postpartum mental health intervention landscape, review past and current interventions implemented by the Rupani Foundation and other institutions in Houston, and identify key prevention, intervention, and support gaps in the population served by the Rupani Foundation USA.
- Create a culturally sensitive and evidence-based antenatal and postpartum mental health strategy that emphasizes prevention, intervention, and support for mothers and their partners.
- Collaborate with maternal health specialists, psychologists, and community health teams to ensure the strategy’s relevance and effectiveness.
- Identify ways to integrate proposed interventions into the Foundation ECD and economic empowerment program, as well as key partners that will help the Rupani Foundation implement this strategy.
- Outline specific objectives, actionable steps, and key performance indicators for successful implementation of the strategy.
- Advocacy and Awareness
- Promote mental health awareness activities, campaigns, and events.
- Encourage open conversations about mental health and well-being among employees.
- Advocate for mental health considerations in organizational policies and practices.
- Training and Education
- Attend relevant training sessions to enhance knowledge of mental health issues and support strategies.
- Organize workshops or training sessions for employees on mental health awareness, stress management, and coping strategies.
- Share best practices and resources related to mental health and well-being.
- Collaboration and Networking
- Work closely with other relevant departments to integrate mental health support into the organization’s well-being strategy.
- Liaise with external mental health organizations to bring in additional resources or training.
- Build a network of mental health champions within the organization to share insights and strategies.
- Plan and lead annual convening sessions, conferences, workshops, or seminars for mothers from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds focusing on antenatal and postpartum mental health care.
- Facilitate dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving during convenings to further advance awareness and practical solutions for pre-natal mental health.
- Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced degree in Psychology, Maternal and Child Health, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field specializing in maternal mental health.
- Demonstrated understanding of the critical challenges in antenatal and postpartum mental health prevention and intervention.
- Expertise in building and maintaining relationships with partners, donors, and health stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support the implementation of the strategy, including grants, donor partnerships, and philanthropic initiatives.
- Experience in developing or contributing to the development of strategic documents.
- Good communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
- Sensitivity and ability to work effectively within diverse cultural settings.
